“Tribute to Cesaria Evora” is back! The biggest stars of music from Cape Verde, Elida Almeida, Lucibela, Ceuzany Pires, and Teofilo Chantre, will perform again on May 18, 19 and 20 in Gdańsk, Warsaw and Szczecin at a special concert, during which we will hear the most beautiful songs of the „Barefoot Diva” in completely new arrangements. It promises to be an unforgettable musical experience!

“Cesaria Evora, the legendary 'Barefoot Diva’, a figure iconic not only for Cape Verdean music but for World Music as a whole, passed away in 2011. At Siesta w Drodze, we want to revisit that memorable evening in Lisbon from June of the following year, when the greatest artists paid tribute to their Teacher.
That night in Lisbon, there were many masters, but the spotlight was on those whom we have presented at our concerts over the years, now the biggest stars of this music, heirs to Cesaria’s legacy. Among them is Teofilo Chantre, a co-creator of the repertoire of the Lady from Mindelo, a great bard. A singer, composer, producer, and magician. We will hear him at our extraordinary concert.
Joining him will be phenomenal artists from the new generation. Perhaps the most dynamic figure in Cape Verdean music, Elida Almeida. A volcano. Dynamite. And she will return – possibly the closest to Cesaria’s tradition – embraced in Poland with unwavering adoration, Lucibela.
For the second time in the Siesta project, the wonderful Ceuzany Pires will appear – an artist born in Senegal, raised in the legendary Mindelo – Cesaria’s city. We will hear the most famous songs of Cesaria Evora in surprising, fresh interpretations. These will be some of the most beautiful evenings of the upcoming spring. ELIDA ALMEIDA. Today, she is probably the most creative artist from Cape Verde and possibly the one with the strongest energy. Not only are her concerts an unending carnival, as if each one could be the last, but Elida also writes new songs for herself and her friends with unwavering energy, appears in various special projects, eagerly sings duets, and is in constant motion. She has just released her fifth album, „Di lonji” (From Afar), once again filled with „happy music” of great beauty and sophistication.
LUCIBELA. To say she is perhaps the closest to the legendary Cesaria would do a disservice to this young artist. Her voice, of rare nobility, wide range, and depth of expression, is distinctly her own. Yet, there is much truth in this comparison. Lucibela, born in the infamous Tarrafal, where Salazar’s regime imprisoned opponents, raised on the islands, sings traditional music. While Sara Tavares, Mayra Andrade, and Dino di Santiago flirt with club rhythms, Lucibela, like Wynton Marsalis in jazz, ensures the survival of the roots.
TEOFILO CHANTRE. A singer, composer, producer, and magician. His visits to our country have long been preceded by his songs. The first to bring them to Poland was Cesaria Evora. Her duet with Kayah was also a song by this great bard from the islands. Since 1993, when the album „Terra & Cretcheu” was released, he has been recording his own albums while generously supporting fellow artists as a producer and songwriter. For example, the album „Manha Florida” by Nancy Vieira is largely his work. His characteristic, unmistakable, tender, and gentle voice is truly unique.
CEUZANY PIRES. She is an extraordinary vocalist from the Republic of Cape Verde, who perfectly blends traditional sounds with modern pop and funk. Her musical journey began at the age of 12 when she gained recognition in local choir competitions and later joined the band Eclipse. After triumphing in a vocal competition on the island of Fogo in 2008, she joined the band Cordas do Sol, bringing new energy and dynamism. Her solo career started in 2012 with the release of her album „Nha Vida,” followed by her 2015 album „Ilha D’Melodia,” which highlighted her exceptional talent and vocal strength.
