Wines of Portugal Grand Tasting – October 7, 2024

This year’s edition of the Grand Tasting of Portuguese Wines took place on October 7th in Centrum Praskie Koneser in Warsaw. The association ViniPortugal together with the Polish-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce invited the wine professionals and aficionados to savour wines from various wine regions presented by 27 producers.

Participants of the event also had the opportunity to take part in two masterclasses to expand their knowledge about the beverage under the guidance of Master Sommelier Adam Pawłowski and Ewa Starzycka and Wojciech Starzycki from Winokąt. Thus, the Grand Tasting provided guests with a feast of both a sensory and intellectual nature. After all, Alexandre Dumas did not do so in vain when he called wine ‘the intellectual part of the meal.’

We would like to sincerely thank all participants, especially our Members and stakeholders, for being part of this edition. We hope to see you again next year, in an equally large or even larger group.

Wine Exports – Portugal 2020 vs. 2021

New Year means seeking new and prosperous opportunities. The PPCC congratulates our partner ViniPortugal for their outstanding performance in Wine promoting!

As observed in 2021, compared with 2020 during the same period, ViniPortugal has registered an 8.11% growth in exportations – and the Polish market is a part of the equation.

Leading ViniPortugal’s European market in demand by recording an increase of 19.54% in 2021, the Polish market is currently standing as one of the top 10 countries in the Portuguese wine client’s global market.

It is with pride that from time to time, the Polish market is presenting itself as a new, prosperous and interested investor in this Portuguese specialty.

Portuguese wine exports grow 19.3% in first half of 2021

We have some good news about the Portuguese wine industry from ViniPortugal!

In the first half of 2021, the total export of Portuguese wines grew by 19.3% and 9.2% compared to the same periods in 2020 and 2019 respectively. Also, the average price increased by 4.2%.

Importantly, Polish purchases of Portuguese wines grew by 36.6% compared to 2020 and reached 15.5 million euros.

However, France still remains the leader in importing Portuguese wines, followed by USA, UK, Brazil and Germany. Except for Angola, which recorded a 12.2% drop in its purchases of Portuguese wines compared to last year, all the other markets recorded growth. Apart from Poland, substantial growth was also observed in Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, China, Denmark, Russia, Ukraine and Mexico. The biggest increase was observed in the case of South Korea, which recorded a growth of 139% with the value of purchases reaching 3.5 million euros.

According to Frederico Falcão, president of ViniPortugal this gives hope that the Portuguese wine industry is starting to consolidate its position within the global wine industry.
